A Puerto Rican/American/Spanish resident in Castillo de Locubín

After a year of waiting to visit my new home in Castillo de Locubín and equipped with a brand new Spanish Resident Visa, I began my journey on January 6th towards Andalucia, Spain. I travelled from JFK to Barajas and then drove the four hours to Castillo arriving around 5pm, or as they refer to it in Spain as 1700 hours.

I had many adventures during this visit and the first one was just as I pulled into the Cortijo. Mari, my friend from Castillo left the keys on a bag inside a hollow tree in front of the property. I was so excited to enter the cortijo for the first time as the new owner and puff roadblock número uno, no keys to be found! I looked everywhere! Yes, everywhere! I called Mari, and she's like, Dude, the keys are there! She decides to drive up to the cortijo and help me get the keys. She looked for the keys and didn't see them either. After we look for what it seemed like horas, we noticed fragments of the bag scattered everywhere. We put our Sherlock Holmes caps and finally figured out that the neighbor's dogs (who will become my pets during my visit) pulled the bag out of the tree and the keys had possibly fallen on the ground. And what do you know!!! the keys were on the middle of the driveway as we suspected.

First Adventure at the Cortijo...checked!

I grabbed the keys with a warmth feeling in my heart and opened the gate... baaam! there it is, after a long and tolling year I got to walk in and experience a very old dream's embrace. I had played the grainy internal movie of the cortijo in my head so many times and finally I didn't need to rely on them any longer. I was here, standing on my patio changing my toggle switch from dream mode to reality mode...

...and in just a millisecond, a blast of ideas and projects burst into my addictive self ready to get started right away. I could see the radiant aura of the cortijo gods shining as the sun bowed, Welcome to your paraiso en España Luis Angel!
